Weight Loss Programs

There are several weight loss programs that are available for people to follow. There's the Low-carbs diet that believes that carbohydrates give off the most number of calories that can't easily be burned. Examples of this kind of diet are Atkins, Zone and South Beach. There's the community based program that doesn't believe that any food restriction will do the dieting person any good. Still another is the liquid diet program that promotes zero solid food intake. Finally, there's the whole grain program that pegs itself on fiber rich foods.

Low- carbohydrate diet programs like Atkins, Zone and South Beach believe that the calories from carbohydrates are actually more dense and concentrated. This means that regular intake of carbs will add up to the stored fat that results from a lack of calorie use. With that, these weight loss programs assert that carbohydrates should be taken out of any dieting person's daily food intake altogether.

Being extremely popular programs, Atkins and South Beach have indeed succeeded in helping a lot of individuals loose their excess weights. Yet, other medical doctors, especially those that specialize in the cardiovascular system raised their concern on the detriments of zeroing carbohydrates out of any individual's diet. They claimed the protein rich advocacy of the aforementioned diets could actually cause diabetes, liver complications, kidney stones, heart diseases and osteoporosis.

After the said raising of concern, weight loss programs that promote zero carbohydrates became consultative, i.e. the patron will have to go see his doctor first and get his professional opinion on the matter.

Yet, one should not discredit these diets that easily since they have also proven themselves to be beneficial. Low-carbs actually promote proper immunity function, protection against protein and muscle breakdowns and proper mental functioning.

Weight loss programs may also be community based. This means that activities are done together and the kinds of food taken are well monitored. An example of this is WeightWatchers, a community based program that promotes the continuance of normal living while loosing weight.

The formula is very simple for the fiber based weight loss programs: Less calorie concentrates on everything equals weight loss and hunger elimination. This means that fiber enriched foods are better than their calorie filled counterparts.

What makes fiber a good is that the dieting person doesn't have to starve anymore. It has to be noted that starvation has a two way effect. One. It actually backfires when the person feels too much hunger already that he/ she is forced to binge. Two. The body may go on a starvation mode that will result to neither gain nor loss in weight. With fiber, one eats while loosing.

At the end of the day, weight loss programs should be patronized according to their safety and their effectiveness.
